Improved game mechanics
Hey there, it's been a while since I last posted about my game "Block Cluster". I was very busy analyzing feedback I got from family and friends and improving on the general feel of the game.
One improvement is about UI cluttering. Before, every possible Power Up that has a timer was displayed with a little bit of transparency on the left side of the screen. Since I'm planning on adding more Power Ups, I would only increase the cluttering. To tackle this, I added a flexible layout that just adds the new timer into the layout until it runs off. Then the timer will be removed again. This way, there are only so many timers on screen at once, since the player can only hold up to 4 Power Ups.
Other changes concern the turret spawn mechanic. The new algorithm of choosing turrets based on a collective probability like stated in my previous devlog has led to overall better spawn scenarios, but having a chance to spawn one of each turret in the early stages of a session felt a bit off to me. I added spawn threshold for each turret, so a new turret is introduced at specific wave counts, increasing the challenge as the player progresses further and further.
Since I realized that player feedback is very valuable, I decided to create a Discord server to build a community.
